All Named Animal Care and Welfare Officers (NACWOs) should be qualified, competent and experienced staff.  The NACWO will have extensive knowledge of the welfare and husbandry requirements of the species housed within their given areas, legislation, the Code of Practice, staff supervision and effective communication.

The NIO role provides focussed dissemination of information.  To do this the NIO needs to determine who needs the information and provide it efficiently, in a format which the person needing the information can use (including the appropriate level for knowledge/skills), being aware that different groups may respond to different approaches, and being able to adapt accordingly.  They will need to be able to provide guidance about where and how to search for information

This workshop provides Named Training and Competency Officers (NTCOs) the opportunity to fully explore their role and responsibilities, discuss issues and challenges faced and provide practical techniques, tools and strategies for everyday use.

The ACWO will have extensive knowledge of the welfare and husbandry requirements of the species housed within their given areas, legislation, Directive 2010/63/EU, staff supervision and effective communication

The National Committee for the Protection of Animals Used for Scientific Purposes states that the Information Officer (IO), "... is responsible for ensuring that those dealing with animals in the establishment have access to information they need about the species held there and procedures being performed. This individual should have good communication and networking skills."

To do this the IO needs to determine who needs the information and provide it efficiently, in a format which the person needing the information can use.  This workshop will help you understand your role, how best to use search engines, identify the best resources, learn how to write key messages and develop communication strategies amongst many useful tips and tricks.
